Introduction
This is an introduction to the DIMO Hardware Ecosystem - a series of tools, guides, and hardware community dedicated to bringing on more DIMO-compatible hardware. Whether you are manufacturing devices from scratch, or looking to integrate existing hardware to the DIMO protocol, we have developed a pipeline with clear steps in how to do this, along with the guides, tools, and resources to help you get launched.
Hardware Onboarding Flow
The following diagram depicts the general onboarding flow for a hardware manufacturer that's looking to build a DIMO-compatible device:
Fill Intake Questionnaire
Fill out a short questionnaire about you, your business, and the device you intend to launch.
Receive Audit Checklist & Sign DIMO MOU
The DIMO Hardware and Security audit checklist is a consolidated list of analysis that will be performed and a general checklist for the device manufacturers (you). The DIMO Foundation also provides a list of approved hardware auditors to facilitate with your launch process.
Sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This is a non-binding agreement between the DIMO Foundation and you that outlines both parties' intent to work together and expectations for the collaboration.
Stake $DIMO & Grant Manufacturer Certificate
As a hardware developer, you must stake 100,000 $DIMO, agree to manufacturer obligations, and receive a license by the approved auditors in order to continue with development. Manufacturer's Root Certificates will then be granted to you ensuring that your device is secured and can be integrated into the DIMO Network.
Development & Certification
This is where the building happens. We also highly recommend you to obtain industrial and radio certifications according to the DIMO Open Hardware Specification. These ensure that your developed device meets the necessary safety, security, and performance standards. Having the appropriate certifications provides reassurance to consumers and helps to build trust in the product you've built.
Hardware Audit
This is the audit step once you've completed all the steps outlined in the Hardware & Security Audit checklist mentioned above.
CX Assessment
A customer experience (CX) audit is a comprehensive assessment of the usability and functionality of a hardware device from the perspective of the end-user, aka consumer. As part of this audit, the end-user may be asked to submit a video of the final product, including the packaging, and walk through the process of setting up the device.
Integration Audit
This is the final audit step where you've submitted everything. The DIMO Foundation Hardware Integration Team votes based on the audit, all certifications, and assessment results from earlier.
Granting the License
This step is when a DIMO Device License is granted to you for going through a rigorous review process by the DIMO Foundation Hardware Integration Team. Once granted, the license permits the manufacturer to issue an unlimited number of devices and establish their identity on the blockchain. This allows the creation of unique and identifiable units for your developed devices.
Developer Notes
If a change was made to the designed device, a new review process and license application is required.
Establish Identity of Devices & Launch
Establish identity of the new devices on the DIMO Network is a straightforward process that involves multiple stages of verification and testing to ensure the quality and security of each device. The manufacturer will be able to register new devices on the DIMO Network and generate Device Minting Certificates per device on the blockchain.
